you can't gain muscle on that type of diet. 500 calories is not even enough to keep up with your daily demands doing nothing. just eat sensible, no fad diets, and exercise a little more. you don't have to do anything that drastic.

Not sure, but 500 calories doesn't seem like it would get you through a day.... let alone have the energy to gain muscle or excercise!

Why not try closer to 1000? Even 1500 calories a day should be fine (and still see results) if you are active.

muffins tend to be just loaded with sugars. Don't make this a regular habit. Although they're low fat, they may be loaded with splenda (or other sweeteners). Think of a muffin as a dense cake.

Look at the calories in these "low fat" white cake muffins: http://lowfatcooking.about.com/od/bakedg…

If you normally eat healthy, it won't be a big deal.

If you like muffins, why don't you make your own muffins? I find that the store bought ones are HUGE portions and they need to be loaded with sugars so that they stay soft. If you make your own muffins, you can make mini ones, use fresh blueberries and load them up with fiber. This way you can control what goes into your muffins.

http://snagwiremedia.com/low-fat-oatmeal… These sound healthier. The oatmeal would make them more filling. Just experiment with different grains. To make recipes healthier, substitute your oil for apple sauce. You can also swap out eggs for tofu. There's a lot of little tweaks you can do to recipes to customize them to your needs.

You should already know that muffins for the most part are about as healthy as cake is. So you either have to work it off or you may defeat the purpose of your own run (unless it's to stay exactly as you are now).

On a related note, I'd eat YOUR muffin(s)! wait, you're over 18, right?

Blueberry muffins are mistaken for healthy sometimes. They are not unhealthy and sure I eat them all the time, but they are full of sugar so not a good thing to have for breakfast everyday. After going for a run if you want to treat yourself that is fine, something to keep you motivated. Because it is better to exercise and eat a little unhealthy sometimes then not exercise and starve yourself.
